Civic Precinct (Stage 1)
The Civic Precinct, or Stage 1 of LIVING CITY, comprises the multi-purpose civic building, 500 space multi-level car park, Food Pavilion and a market square. The site is bounded by Best Street, Fenton Way, Rooke Street and Oldaker Streets.
Construction of Stage 1 commenced in June 2016 and was completed in August 2018. The multi-purpose building, known as the paranaple centre is home to the Devonport Library, Service Tasmania, community meeting rooms, Online Access Centre, Hudsons Coffee and a 800-seat conference and convention centre.
The Food Pavilion is known as Providore Place and features Ben Milbourne’s restaurant “Charolotte Jack”, Southern Wild Distillery, Chips Tasmania, Drysdales newest training facility and an indoor market and function space.
Stage 1 was built by Fairbrother and completed under budget. Whilst LIVING CITY Stage 1 required Council to make a significant investment , the final borrowings were $6M less than originally forecast ($33M rather than $39M) and debt was secured at lower than expected interest rates.
