Fairbrother Pty Ltd has been appointed as the preferred construction contractor for Stage 1 of the LIVING CITY project, at a Special Council Meeting held last night.
A ‘guaranteed maximum price’ or ‘GMP’ contract will now be finalised with Fairbrother, with an early works package likely to be entered into in the meantime, to enable works to commence in the coming months.
The appointment follows a two phase tender process, overseen by legal firm Page Seager who acted as probity advisors.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Fairbrother as construction contractor for Stage 1 of LIVING CITY” said Devonport Mayor, Alderman Steve Martin.
“The appointment marks the start of a construction boom for Devonport and the region” he said.
“As a Devonport-based company, Fairbrother is delighted to be engaged by Council for Stage 1 of the LIVING CITY project”, Fairbrother North West Manager Darryn Smith said.
“We appreciate the faith shown by Council in our ability to deliver the most significant civic project on the North West Coast in recent decades” Mr Smith said.
Construction which includes a multi-purpose civic building, a large food pavilion designed to showcase the regions local produce and a multi-storey car park is expected to take 18 months to complete.
