Kennel Licencing

Under the Dog Control Act 2000, you must apply for a Kennel Licence if you plan to keep:

  • More than two dogs that are over six months old; or
  • More than four working dogs that are over six months old.

To apply for a Kennel Licence, you must first place a Notice of Intention to Apply for a Kennel Licence in a local daily newspaper. After this, you need to submit a Kennel Licence Application to Council and pay the required fee.

Twenty eight days after the notice appears in the newspaper, Council will inspect the property and consider any objections or complaints that have been received.

Once all requirements have been met and the fee has been paid, Council will issue the Kennel Licence.
