The proposed Food Pavillion is a key component of Stage One LIVING CITY.

The food market will deliver a unique Tasmanian experience, with an authentic ‘street market’ feel, rather than a traditional ‘shopping centre’ design.

It will represent the freshness and purity of Tasmanian produce.  The built form of the market will reflect the beauty of our natural environment, particularly that of Devonport and the North West region.

The food market will create retail opportunities for all levels of producers.  The Food Pavillion will operate traditional premises for lease, but will also allow smaller suppliers to take short term lease positions (even daily) to present and promote their products.

“For too long the incredible depth and quality of local produce has been hidden and we see this as an exciting first step to presenting the right food image of the region and Devonport” said Devonport Martin Steve Martin.

“There is strong interest from the industry in the food market and we see this as the first major step for tourism improvement and encouraging people from the Spirit of Tasmania to come and experience Devonport as well as providing local produce for our residents in a new way” said Mayor Martin.

The Food Pavillion will represent the “Food Bowl” of Tasmania.  The Food Pavillion will focus on Tasmanian produce and will showcase:

  • The North West Region’s rich and diverse agriculture; and
  • Be supported by other Tasmanian region produce.

The key objectives of the Food Pavillion are:

  • Make Tasmanian produce easily accessible to locals and tourists
  • Create new jobs
  • Support new business enterprise
  • Bring the farm to the customer
  • Deliver new Tasmanian food experiences to all
  • Support and promote the regional food market
  • Encourage tourism growth
